Health Benefits of Tribulus
Tribulus Terrestris
Tribulus Terrestris: Information
Tribulus terrestris, also known as Puncture Vine. Tribulus terrestris has been used for centuries in Oriental and Ayurvedic medicine as a general tonic herb and one prescribed for specific conditions.1,2 Tribulus is now most often used as a dietary supplement based on claims that it can boost libido and testosterone.
Health Benefits of Tribulus
Tribulus contains a complex mixture of compounds, primarily flavonoid glycosides, steroidal saponins and protodioscin. Users who respond well to tribulus report significant increases in libido, energy and drive but it's not clear from the available research what compounds are responsible or how they exert their effects. The most popular theory is that protodiscin may be able to cause the anterior pituitary to release LH (lutenizing hormone) which in turn causes an increase in testosterone release from the testes. Using tribulus supplement may therefore indirectly benefit energy levels, muscle size, strength, libido and sexual function.3
Using Tribulus Terrestris
As there are currently no dosage protocols for Tribulus terrestris supplements users should follow label directions. If you have questions about your hormone levels or whether tribulus is appropriate for use with a heath condition or medication, consult your physician.
